Horizon Hospice and Palliative Care plays a big part in helping to keep our patients' quality of life as high as possible as they journey through the last chapter of their lives.
Our volunteers are compassionate individuals who recognize that their presence can make a big difference in the lives of our patients. Each of them go through an orientation class. We also require, provide and pay for: background checks, TB tests, and driving record checks for all our volunteers. We ask our volunteers to commit to one year of volunteer service consisting of a minimum of one hour per week.
Some of the things our patient volunteers do include:
- Offer companionship
- Be a listening ear
- Share a game or hobby
- Write a dictated letter
- Run errands
- Read to a patient
- Sit with a patient to give the caregiver a chance to run some errands
- Give a patient a simple hand massage
- Paint fingernails
- Provide wheelchair tours for some fresh air
Our non-patient volunteers help in the following ways:
- Phone calling
- Making lap blankets for patients
- Manning a booth at a community event
Our volunteer classes are held once per quarter. If you are interested in volunteering with us, click on the picture link to fill out our online application and call our volunteer department to let us know you would like information on our upcoming Volunteer Orientation Class.
